Kapuso at the Upper Yard — also known as the Balboa Park Housing Project — is a transformative affordable housing development that brings much-needed new residences to San Francisco’s Outer Mission neighborhood. Strategically located adjacent to the Balboa Park BART station, this vibrant mixed-use community enhances a key transit gateway while celebrating the cultural identity of the neighborhood. The nine-story building includes 131 thoughtfully designed apartments for low-income families, a child development center, non-profit office space, neighborhood-serving retail, a community room, an inviting central courtyard, and secure bike parking. More than just housing, Kapuso is a hub for connection, wellness, and opportunity.

Priority Architectural Graphics played an important role as a signage partner, contributing to the project’s overall clarity, accessibility, and welcoming aesthetic. From wayfinding elements that help residents and visitors easily navigate the space, to custom architectural signage, Priority’s work elevated the environment with fabrication precision. Our close collaboration with the project team ensured the signage seamlessly integrated with the architecture and met the needs of a diverse resident base.

Kapuso at the Upper Yard stands as a successful model of transit-oriented, community-focused development—redefining how affordable housing can look, feel, and function in San Francisco.
